Center Court News

Manager’s Desk
There is so much going on this month it would be hard to limit it to just one page. As many of you know, ownership of the club has changed hands and we have been working behind the scenes to make the transition as smooth as possible. The club will see some exciting changes in the coming months and we look forward to a new and exciting future. As for many of the programs and events planned, you will see some slight programming changes but our calendar of events will not change significantly.

“The County” Events gearing up. Are you prepared?
All of the County Championship events are scheduled and you should see plenty of action! BRC does a great job hosting these events and we will have all of the entries available at the front desk or available by going to www. Kerntennis.org. We encourage all of our members to participate in the County Championships as well as all of the KCTA events. Check out the board in our lobby to see a complete calendar and hit the courts and start practicing!

Member of the Month for June is Leia Perkins
The Member of the Month for June is Leia Perkins. Although Leia hasn’t played long she has made great strides in her game. She took up the game last summer and has really caught the tennis bug. She has participated in league and won, and continues to playsin every tournament that comes around She is also a key player on BC Tennis Team where she plays #4 Singles. Her aggressive style and killer volley has made her a highly sought after player in USTA League play. She continues to work hard on her game under the watchful eye of her coach, Mark Fredriksz. One of her goals is to beat her talented Mom in a game of singles! Look out Maxine! Until then, maybe she’ll share her parking spot with you. We’re proud of your accomplishments and keep working hard!

Mark’s Tennis Tip
It’s Tournament Season, get prepared or suffer defeat!
Tournament season is here and if you plan on playing, you better start practicing. Start adding one more doubles match per week to your schedule, start getting to Monday Night Drills and plan on taking a few doubles lessons from a pro. You know your opponents are, so if you want to compete, you better get with it! Oh sure, “I play tournaments for fun” you say. Well, I got news for you– Losing is NOT fun!. Take my word for it, I did not prepare for the Laurel Glen Open, I did not practice and I got SPANKED, and it wasn’t FUN. Get out there and practice or be prepared for the consequences.

Summer Camps!!!!!!
Yes, the club will be filled with summer campers once again and we have no less then 10 weeks of camp. Our camps are filling up fast and you really want to get your child signed up ASAP. The camps stress every facet of tennis including strokes, scoring , etiquette and we also play a fun, non competitive weekend tournament with free pizza and drinks. A sign-up sheet is available at the front desk or by calling the tennis department at 833-3740

Adult/Junior Round Robin on June 16
A great event for both adults and juniors. Team up with an adult or junior and we’ll do the rest! The round robin will be played in the morning before the heat sets in and then we’ll have your hotdogs or hamburgers hot and ready for you when you get off the court. Sign-up at the front desk

Junior Tennis League scheduled to start June 29. Bus trip is on July 19th
Were trying something new and were hoping you son or daughter will participate. The league is just for Fridays and will end with a trip to the Countrywide Championships in L.A. The ATP Championships will feature the best players on the planet fighting it out for the title and lots of money. The event will take place at UCLA and your entry into the league will include a ticket, lunch and transportation to and from the event. There are limited spots, so sign-up early. Adults are welcome to come along on the trip but you have to get your own ticket. Last year was a great time and this year should be as well. Contact Mark for all of the details.

Monday Night Drills Update
Were adding more courts to fill the demand! That’s why it’s sooooo important that you sign-up early and let us know by 3 PM if you cannot make it. If cancellations are not in by 3PM or you will be charged. Monday Night Drills is not a class where you learn strokes, it’s a drill class where you practice your strokes. Be prepared to sweat and have a blast! As anyone can tell you, that cold beverage you enjoy after drills will taste so good! Sign-up early at the front desk or you will be placed on our waiting list.
